Released on this day in January 19, 1983, the Apple Lisa an
acronym for Local Integrated Software Architecture or "LISA".
Since Steve Jobs' first daughter was named Lisa.

Several years prior to this, research had been going on to
create a new way to organize everything on the screen, today known
as the desktop.
A great deal of work was put into making the graphical interface
into a mainstream commercial product by the Lisa team.
It was the computer that had the power to put a dent in the
universe, but was destined to live a life of failure.
Worst of all, a Lisa system cost $9995, way too much for anybody
that would want to buy one. A famous quote really says it all, "It
was a great machine, we just couldn't sell any".
In 1989, Apple disposed of approximately 2,700 unsold Lisas in a
guarded landfill in Logan, Utah, in order to receive a tax
write-off on the unsold inventory.
