King of Cool

Im not saying I have ever escaped a Nazi prison of war camp during WW2 on a Motorbike, rescued people from a towering inferno, befriended Dustin Hoffman nor had the longest Car chase on record, but this is where the differences end…I do have the king of cool's jacket!

Steve McQueen in the famous Le Mans Jacket

Cool, but very expensive bags.

Gracing the shelves of Selfridges this Spring are some pretty nice bags by Anya Hindmarch, who started her fashion career in Florence, Italy and is renowned for designing the eco-friendly "I'm not a plastic bag" tote which became a worldwide must-have.

In the collection we have the Fruit and Veg bag, the Homework tote, one inspired by the Beach and a couple of newspaper covers. I have bag envy! The original Anya Hindmarch store can be found on Walton Street, London. However the brand now has over fifty four stores in seven countries... Take a peek at http://www.anyahindmarch.com/.

Book Landscaping

Artist Guy Laramee creates amazing miniature book landscapes out of old books, dictionaries and encyclopedias. His series entitled The Great Wall and Biblios represent the degradation of human culture and show glacial landscapes, deep valleys and plateaus.

"So I carve landscapes out of books and I paint Romantic landscapes,"  says the artist on his website. "Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. They erode a bit more and they become hills. Then they flatten and become fields where apparently nothing is happening. Piles of obsolete encyclopedias return to that which does not need to say anything, that which simply IS. Fogs and clouds erase everything we know, everything we think we are."

And what do you do with your old books?

Apple Lisa

Released on this day in January 19, 1983, the Apple Lisa an acronym for Local Integrated Software Architecture or "LISA". Since Steve Jobs' first daughter was named Lisa.

Several years prior to this, research had been going on to create a new way to organize everything on the screen, today known as the desktop.

A great deal of work was put into making the graphical interface into a mainstream commercial product by the Lisa team.

It was the computer that had the power to put a dent in the universe, but was destined to live a life of failure.

Worst of all, a Lisa system cost $9995, way too much for anybody that would want to buy one. A famous quote really says it all, "It was a great machine, we just couldn't sell any".

In 1989, Apple disposed of approximately 2,700 unsold Lisas in a guarded landfill in Logan, Utah, in order to receive a tax write-off on the unsold inventory.
